Apple plans to invest $1 billion in Indonesian factory
Investment Minister Rozan Roslani said details of the planned investment are still being negotiated.
Apple plans to invest $1 billion in a manufacturing plant in Indonesia that will produce components for smartphones and other products. This is reported by Reuters.
According to Investment Minister Rozan Roslani, details of the planned investment are still being negotiated.
“We will still discuss some issues with them … we hope to announce everything next week after receiving a written commitment from them,” he said.
Apple currently has no manufacturing facilities in Indonesia, a country with a population of about 280 million people, but since 2018 it has set up academies for app developers. Indonesia sees the strategy as an attempt to meet local component requirements to sell older iPhone models.
As a reminder, Indonesia has blocked the sale of the latest smartphones from Apple Inc. The reason is that the American company has not met the requirements for investment in the country.
